Tools Needed

A drill
1" hole saw or 1" spade bit
10mm wrench or socket
Razor blade
100 or 150 grit sand paper
Orange degreasing cleaner or similar
Acetone

Notes: You can either install the bulbs or ballasts first. The installation guide is written to install the bulbs first but either way is easiest. The kit installed in this guide is a 35w DDM Slim Ballast kit with 4300K bulbs (the OEM temperature). You may need to re-aim your headlights after installation as the HID bulb is longer than the halogen bulb.

1. Start by removing the air intake duct from the passenger side of the engine bay. You will need to remove the two 10mm bolts by the front of the car to remove the duct.

2. Remove the battery from the drivers side of the car.

3. Take off the headlight caps and mark the center of the cap from either side of the cap. The will probably be easier. You will then drill a 1" hole in each of the caps. This is to accept the new HID wires. To make the hole a little cleaner you may want to use a razor blade to remove any excess plastic shavings and follow up with some sand paper to simply smooth out the hole.

4. Install the HID bulbs into the driver and passenger side headlights and secure them with the OEM metal clips. Connect the OEM wiring to the new HID wires as shown (polarity is sensitive so if they are backwards the lights won't light up - simply reverse the wires if this happens).

5. Feed the wires through the headlight cap and seal the hole with the grommet surrounding the wires. You can install the caps at this time.

6. Now it is time to mount the ballasts. From the above picture you can see we mounted the passenger ballast under where the intake duct connects. Clean the area with some degreaser and follow up with some acetone or something similar. Use the provided double sided sticky pads to mount the passenger ballast on as flat a surface as possible.

7. The drivers side ballast seem to fit best right next to where the washer fluid filler tube is in front of where the battery would be. Again clean the area with a degreaser and follow up with some acetone or something similar. Use the double sided sticky pad to mount the ballast. The ballast is mounted with the wires facing toward the front of the car.

8. On this particular install a battery harness was used. This is not required on these cars but it is recommended. The battery harness takes away strain from the OEM wiring during the HID startup process. The HIDs typically start up faster also. The harness was laid out on top of the engine to organize all the wiring. The wiring to the passenger side was fed under the brackets that hold the top of the radiator. The wiring is heat wrapped so heat should not be an issue. The wiring we organized on each side to stay away from potential engine hazards such as belts etc.

9. Connect up all the battery harness wiring to the HID kit and tidy up the wiring further if necessary. Additional zip ties may be required. Install the headlight caps if not done so already.

10. Install the battery and connect the battery harness to the battery. The positive wire was fed through the OEM red protective cover. The negative was simply routed to the negative side of the battery. When installing the battery be mindful of the HID wiring from the headlight cap and also to the ballast.

11. Install the air intake duct and you're done! Test everything out to make sure nothing is amiss. Refer to our troubleshooting section if there is an issue.

Troubleshooting:

The bulbs aren't lighting up when I have connected everything and I am testing it.
You may have a faulty bulb, damaged during installation or failed from the factory. Please refer to our support page for replacement instructions. If damaged during installation please note that the replacement will be at cost to the customer. Another problem may be that on some cars the wiring polarity is backwards on the OEM harness. This is because halogen bulbs are not polarity sensitive. You will simply need to switch the wiring around. You may also need to check your fuses.

I have finished the installation and the lights are flickering when they first turn on. Is this normal?
Some flickering is normal during start up of the bulbs. If they do it for more than 5 seconds or so there may be a problem with the bulb or ballast. Some ways to narrow this down is to switch the ballasts around from one side of the car to the other. The car's computer may also be interferrring and causing this to happen. You may require our bulb out warning harness or battery harness or both.

I have finished installing the kit but one bulb seems to be a different colour than the other.
This should not be the case and could be a candidate for warranty replacement. Please refer to our support page for replacement instructions.

I have finished installing the kit and when I go to turn the lights on they turn on for a moment and then shut off.
This is most common on newer cars. The lights may be monitored by the on board computer system and because HIDs use a lot less power than OEM halogen bulbs the computer detects this as a bulb failure. You may also be getting a bulb out warning on your dash due to this problem. One fix is to use our bulb out warning harness or and/or out battery harness. Some cars require both.

I finished installing the kit but one of the headlights seems to take a considerable amount of time to turn on if at all.
This can either be a faulty ballast (though uncommon) or that the car needs a wiring harness. There are slight variations between ballasts that can cause one to not start up properly when drawing from the OEM headlight wiring. A wiring harness solves this by providing clean constant power directly from the battery. Switching the ballast around may not help diagnose the problem in this case. First try would be a wiring harness. If that fails to solve the problem then a replacement ballast is required. See our support page for replacement instructions.
