Tools Needed

A drill
1" hole saw or 1" spade bit
Phillips screw driver
Flat head screw driver
Razor blade
100 or 150 grit sand paper
Orange degreasing cleaner or similar
Acetone

Important notes: The kit used in this installation is the 55w DDM 5000K HID Kit. Please note that 55w kits run very hot. A 35w kit runs cooler. If you decide on the 55w kit it is recommended to shut the fog lights off if the car stands for any length of time. Fog lights are designed to be used during serious fog and bad weather conditions to light up the road in front of you and to the side. Yellow light is the most efficient at doing this as it does not reflect as much light from the fog, rain, or snow. 3000K HIDs are available and produce yellow light.

1. Pull the grills off of the bumper to expose the screws holding the fog lights to the car. They require some force to pull them off.

Steps 2 through 7 are the same for both fog lights.

2. Unscrew the fog lights using the phillips screw driver and use a flat head screw driver to release the plug in the back of the fog light.

3. Take the cap off of the back of the fog light and mark the approximate center. You will then drill out the center of the cap with the spade bit or hole saw. You may need to use a razor blade to cut off some of the plastic shavings and then some sand paper to smooth out the hole.

4. Take out the OEM bulb from the fog light and install the HID bulb. You will need to feed all the wires and grommet through the metal clip that is used to hold the bulb down. Secure the HID bulb with the metal clip.

5. Plug the spade connectors into the OEM plug socket as shown (note that it is red to brown and black to purple). Wrap the wires with electrical tape to prevent shorting out.

6. Tuck the connector under the bulb mounting plate as shown (after taping them of course).

7. Feed the wires through the fog light cap and seal the grommet in the hole you made earlier. Plug the cap back into the fog light housing.

8. Now you want to focus on installing the ballasts. They mount a little differently on each side. Clean out the space behind the fog grill and fog light as shown. It is recommended to use an orange degreasing cleaner. Use acetone as a final cleaning agent to the surface where the ballasts are being mounted.

9. For the passenger side you want to use the provided double sided adhesive tape to mount it as shown.

10. On the passenger side you will want to organize the wires as shown. The longest wire with the 9006 connector on the end should be tucked away under the bottom mounting screw point. You will want to zip tie the black igniter box to the black tube running up the side of the inside of the bumper as shown.

11. The drivers side mounts similarly. Prepare the surface as done previously on the other side. Mount the ballast as shown.

12. The igniter and wires are tucked away in an similar way to the passenger side.

13. You now want to connect up the fog lights and organise the wires so you may properly install the fog light. You need to connect the bulb wires, the ballast wire, and plug the OEM connector into the back of the fog light. You want all the wires hidden behind the fog light. The air duct is used to feed air to cool your intercoolers (2.7T models only) and you want to keep that area as clear as possible).

14. Put your grills back on and you're done! Test the lights and check all is well. If there is an issue please refer to the troubleshooting guide below. You may need to re-aim your fog lights down a little bit.

Troubleshooting:

The bulbs aren't lighting up when I have connected everything and I am testing it.
You may have a faulty bulb, damaged during installation or failed from the factory. Please refer to our support page for replacement instructions. If damaged during installation please note that the replacement will be at cost to the customer. Another problem may be that on some cars the wiring polarity is backwards on the OEM harness. This is because halogen bulbs are not polarity sensitive. You will simply need to switch the wiring around. You may also need to check your fuses.

I have finished the installation and the lights are flickering when they first turn on. Is this normal?
Some flickering is normal during start up of the bulbs. If they do it for more than 5 seconds or so there may be a problem with the bulb or ballast. Some ways to narrow this down is to switch the ballasts around from one side of the car to the other. The car's computer may also be interferrring and causing this to happen. You may require our bulb out warning harness or battery harness or both.

I have finished installing the kit but one bulb seems to be a different colour than the other.
This should not be the case and could be a candidate for warranty replacement. Please refer to our support page for replacement instructions.

I have finished installing the kit and when I go to turn the lights on they turn on for a moment and then shut off.
This is most common on newer cars. The lights may be monitored by the on board computer system and because HIDs use a lot less power than OEM halogen bulbs the computer detects this as a bulb failure. You may also be getting a bulb out warning on your dash due to this problem. One fix is to use our bulb out warning harness or and/or out battery harness. Some cars require both.

I finished installing the kit but one of the headlights seems to take a considerable amount of time to turn on if at all.
This can either be a faulty ballast (though uncommon) or that the car needs a wiring harness. There are slight variations between ballasts that can cause one to not start up properly when drawing from the OEM headlight wiring. A wiring harness solves this by providing clean constant power directly from the battery. Switching the ballast around may not help diagnose the problem in this case. First try would be a wiring harness. If that fails to solve the problem then a replacement ballast is required. See our support page for replacement instructions.
